Takhat means a throne or seat of authority and in Sikhism it is a spiritual and temporal centre. Akal Takhat Sahib is located in the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, Punjab. The Akal Takhat Sahib was initially built by the sixth Guru of Sikhs, SRI GURU HARGOBIND SAHIB JI as a symbol for political sovereignty of Sikhs. It stood as symbol of political and military resistance against the Mughal Empire in the 17th and 18th century. GURU SAHIB used to listen and solve the problems of his sikhs.

Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib. It is located in Anandpur Sahib, it was founded by SRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI in 1699. Keshgarh Sahib is birth place of Khalsa by SRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI on Vaisakhi day March 30, 1699.

Takhat Sri Patna Sahib, is one of the Five Takhats of the Sikhs, the Temporal Authorities of Sikhism. The Gurudwara at Patna Sahib is in remembrance of the birth place of SRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs. Like many historical Gurudwara's in India and Pakistan, this Gurudwara Sahib was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib, one of the Five Takhats or Seat of Temporal Authority of Sikhism, Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib is situated at Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda in Punjab, India and is the place where SRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI, the tenth Sikh Guru, prepared the full version of the Sikh Scriptures called SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI in 1705.

Takhat Sri Hazur Sahib is a Sikh Gurudwara located on the banks of the River Godavari at the city of Nanded in the state of Maharashtra, Southern India. The structure is built at the location where SRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI left this world. It is one of the five 'Takhats' (Seats of Temporal authority) in Sikhism. The inner room of the temple is called the Angitha Sahib and is built over the place where SRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI left this world. Before leaving this world GURU SAHIB gave gurgaddi to SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB and made him Living GURU.
